SERGEANT ROBERT
FRASER
ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED
POLICE
-
(Portrayed by Gordon Pinsent)
-
AGE: Died
at age 57 while on duty.
-
DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES: Transparent (Usually, Benton is the only one who can see
him). 5 foot 8 inches, graying hair.
-
CLOTHES:
Often seen (or not seen, as the case may be) wearing his Red Serge uniform.
His stetson is occasionally seen with the back cut off (When he died, they
had to cut it so he could lie flat, to Robert's displeasure, they - the
living - don't realize how embarrassing these things can be in the afterlife).
-
DEMEANOR:
Very calm, not prone to fly by the seat of his pants. Logical in thinking.
Helpful. Rather annoying to Benton once in awhile, but does help Benton
to look at all the possibilities on the odd occasion. Can also be argumentative
when he wants to be.
-
MOTTOS/SAYINGS:
"Your heart is where your duty lies son. Your head is just along for the
driving." "Never follow a man over a cliff."
-
EXPERIENCE AS
AN OFFICER: 35 years.
-
LIVES:
In Benton's closet at the Canadian Consulate.
-
MARITAL STATUS:
Had a wife named Caroline who died when Benton was six. Never remarried.
-
ENJOYS:
Painting with his group of 6. Camping. Giving Benton his advice, even when
Benton doesn't ask for it (Maybe ESPECIALLY when he doesn't ask for it).
-
FRIENDS:
Sargeant Buck Frobisher. Gerard - though he later realized that Gerard
wasn't such a good friend after all... Gerard DID have him assassinated.
-
DISLIKES:
People who break the law. Victoria Metcalfe. The yank (Ray K.) moving in
on Benton's chances with women. When Benton won't listen to him. When people
burn down/shoot up his cabin.
SECRET SHAMES:
He thinks that he wasn't that good a father to Benton (When Caroline died,
he got Ben's Grandparents to take care of him, so he didn't see Ben as
often as he'd have liked to). Had a daughter named Maggie Mackenzie with
a woman named Ellen (I think that was her name) after Caroline died. Bob
didn't find out until he met her years later. Benton met her when she came
to Chicago tracking her husband's murderers. At first, Benton and Ray K.
both sorta had a thing for her and Bob told Benton not to let the yank
move in on her. Benton was a little curious when he discovered that Maggie
could see and hear Bob just as easily as he could. When Benton discovered
that Maggie's "father" died in early 1969, Maggie was born in mid 1970,
and knowing that Bob and Maggie's mother had been close, Benton put it
all together to discover
Bob + Ellen = Maggie. Benton realized
that Maggie was his half sister while Bob realized that he had been a miserable
father, twice. But, Maggie didn't seem like she was going to bear any grudges
before going back to Canada.
