Constable Benton
Fraser
Royal Canadian Mounted
Police

-
(Portrayed by Paul Gross)
-
AGE:
About 35 (probably a little more)
-
DISTINGUISHING
FEATURES: Brown hair, blue eyes, clean shaven. Average build. Very
handsome, especially in Red Serge uniform.
-
CLOTHES:
One of two Red Serge uniforms for work, a brown uniform which is a little
less formal (and a little less dashing - I.M.H.O.) or "civvies" (jeans
and a shirt, often plaid). All accompanied by his Stetson (the hat).
-
DEMEANOR:
Prone to be helpful. Believes what people tell him (also gullible at times).
Does NOT lie. A non smoker, non drinker and non swearer.
-
MOTTOS/SAYINGS:
"It just takes a few extra seconds to be courteous." Fraser also follows
the 5 'P's - "Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Performance" (Often brings
this up when about to throw a knife.) "You let a wolf save your life and
you pay and pay and pay." "Archimedes once said 'Give me a fulcrum and
a lever long enough, and I can move the world'." (to which Ray replied
"Why do I always have to be the fulcrum?!")
-
EXPERIENCE
AS AN OFFICER: About 15 years
-
LIVES:
At the Canadian Consulate. He had an apartment, but it burned down (Actually,
when the show was canceled for what they thought to be for good, they destroyed
the set of Ben's apartment. When the show was resurrected, they decided
that Ben would return to Chicago to find his apartment building in flames).
-
MARITAL
STATUS: Single, never married. Once arrested the true love of his
life. Paid for it later when the vindictive wench burned down his father's
cabin and tried to have him killed. Has had fleeting romances with Inspector
Margaret Thatcher (fellow RCMP officer) and a bounty hunter named Janet
Morse. Is often a victim of many advances made by Francesca Vecchio, Ray's
sister.
-
LANGUAGES
SPOKEN: English, French, Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) and Inuktitut.
Can understand Greek and Latin and can sign in Semaphore. It was implied
in one episode that he knows a little Russian (he said his Russian was
a little rusty.)
-
ENJOYS:
Poetry by Robert Service and Gerard Manley Hopkins. Curling. Beethoven.
Disco. Vacationing up North.
-
FRIENDS:
Ray Vecchio (detective), Diefenbaker (wolf), Ray Kowalski (detective),
Buck Frobisher (fellow RCMP officer), Mark Smithbauer (hockey player).
-
ADVICE
HIS FATHER GAVE HIM: Never follow a
man off a cliff.
-
#
OF TIMES HE'S CAUSED RAY'S CAR TO EXPLODE: twice
-
DISTANCE
FROM HIS APARTMENT TO CANADA (B4 THE APARTMENT BURNED DOWN): 480
miles due North.
-
DISLIKES:
People who are dishonest and/or people who break the law, when his dad
butts into things, Constable Turnbull, when people get mad at him when
he's trying to help. Being stabbed in the leg.
-
SECRET
SHAMES: Getting lost and having boiled his shoes for food when he
was a child (boy did he get a wallop from his grandmother). Losing his
boots cause he left them on the roof of Ray's car to pursue a criminal.
Getting shot in the hat (a.k.a. stetson of invulnerability - Benton is
more prone to trouble when he and his hat are apart.). Being struck by
a dead otter when he was ten. Had to dress in drag to help Ray out once
(oh wait, he wasn't ashamed of that). Indirectly responsible for Ray getting
blown up (pilot episode), indirectly responsible for Ray getting shot in
the back. Foiled Ray's cover when he was still undercover. Having been
outsmarted repeatedly by the teenage daughter of a Canadian Diplomat.
-
INSANITY
IN THE FAMILY: None that he knows of for certain. His uncle Tiberius
died wrapped in cabbage leaves, but they assume that was a freak accident.
